Faith Workout: Train For Treasure

“Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also”

READ

Matthew 6:19-24

REFLECT

Jesus says the eye determines the direction of the body.  In athletics, we know this principle very well.  Where the eyes go, the body goes.  Coaches instruct us to keep our eyes on the ball, and they tell us to look where we are planning to run.  Lifters are also familiar with this concept.  When performing a lift we can get out of position simply by looking in the wrong spot.  The eyes of an athlete determine the direction of the body, and the eyes of a disciple determine the direction of the heart.

What do you seek?  Where are you looking?  What do you view as your ultimate goal?  This is where we put our eyes, and our lives will follow.  We train for what holds the highest value in our lives.  Jesus summarizes two places to put our eyes when He says, “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other.  You cannot serve God and money.”  Which one of these treasures holds the highest value in your life?  Do you find yourself training for a treasure that can only be kept in this life?  Or does your training point toward the eternal treasure only God can give?

“The place where your treasure is, is the place you will most want to be, and end up being” – Matthew 6:21 (MSG)
