When people set goals, they decide to change their habits and behavior. You might want to PR your deadlift or get a faster Fran time.
When we set goals, we need to be diligent and think things through. Proverbs 21:5 gives us an idea of what happens when we rush into things without planning. “The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty.”
We generally talk about goals in months or a few years in terms of length. But what about 20 years from today? For most people picturing where you are that far into the future is mentally taxing. But if we are living how God wants us to, it doesn’t have to be as intimidating of a thought.
- Have you ever considered setting a goal further than a few years?
While 20 years may be a long time away, when we set goals far into the future, we set ourselves up to live more intentional, purpose-driven lives.
Jesus doesn’t just help us set our goals, he rewards us for setting ones that seek heaven and not the material world.
Colossians 3:23 reads, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” In verse 24, we learn the reward. “Since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”
Can you think of anything more worthwhile than an inheritance from Jesus? The short answer is no.
