Bible Reading:

Mark 10:45

“For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.

Word:

Mark tells us that Jesus came to serve and not to be served, but more importantly that He came to give his life as a ransom. He came to give it all for us! That is good news! Oftentimes, we are challenged to serve or maybe we are the ones challenging others to serve. We know it is Jesus’ heart.

You or someone you know may have stepped into a serving opportunity years ago and have served most your life. However, sometimes, we may get a little grouchy because we don’t feel like anybody appreciates what we have done and are doing. Anybody besides me? When people we serve don’t say thank you or don’t even show up, it makes it difficult to have a servant attitude sometimes.

A servant’s path has to be out of humility not for recognition or we will be sorely disappointed. I think it is definitely a good heart check to see if we are serving out of humility and gratitude of how Jesus serves us or a need to feel significant.

I believe as a young Christian; we may serve for all kinds of reasons even just out of guilt. However, I hope you will join me in determining to grow in this area of humility. I believe it starts with us allowing Jesus to meet our needs especially for significance and recognition. When we allow Him to fill those desires, we are fee to serve out of humility and gratitude regardless of how the people we serve respond. Let’s serve out of a humble response to our Lord who serves us!

Prayer:

Lord, please fill the need I have for significance and recognition, that I would be free from trying to get that from anyone else, especially those I serve. In Jesus’ name, amen!

Skillwork:

Ask Jesus to show you how He is filling the desire for significance and recognition in your life today. Then, listen.
