We’ve got your daily encouragement, written by Matt Chow.

Bible Reading:

1 John 4:16

“So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.”

Word:

In today’s scripture reading, it starts off by stating “we know and rely on the love God has for us.” We must first recognize how much God loves us. In fact, he loved us so much that he sent His one and only Son to die for us. Notice the Bible doesn’t say that God loves us so much that he always gives us what we want, what we pray for, or the guarantee of a life without pain or discomfort.

It’s much like being a parent and your kid asking for a cookie and a soda for breakfast every day. As a parent, we love our kid enough to know that a soda and a cookie for breakfast is not in the best interest for them. Our God knows what is in the best interest for us and it’s not always an answer to our prayers.

The next part says “God is love.” Wherever God is, you can find love. When we take time to fellowship with God, love is the result. When we truly know God and fellowship with Him, we also know how to love others. But it doesn’t just take the act of knowing love, it requires action on our part. Knowledge without action is useless.

The love God commands us to is one that knows no political boundaries, skin color, or outward appearances. The love God commands us to changes us from the inside out, so we can change our world.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank you for showing me what perfect love is. You loved me before I even knew you. Use me as a sacrifice to love others the same way you love me. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Skillwork:

COVID has been really tough on everyone for this past year. There are a lot of people hurting from death, loss of a job, loss of connections, and a divided country. There may be a lot of people that are afraid to reach out. It’s take the time to check on the people we have in our lives and let them know they have a safe place to go to. This is how we put our knowledge into action.
