Bible Reading:

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭11:23-28‬
“By faith Moses’ parents hid him for three months after he was born, because they saw he was no ordinary child, and they were not afraid of the king’s edict. By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward. By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger; he persevered because he saw him who is invisible. By faith he kept the Passover and the application of blood, so that the destroyer of the firstborn would not touch the firstborn of Israel.”

Word:

Today’s passage of Scripture provides a thought provoking question for us to consider. How do we change our circumstances and get out of our comfort zone when we are called by God?
If you recall, Moses was raised in the house of Pharaoh by Pharaoh’s daughter. He enjoyed all of the luxuries that a family member would. However, he was not an Egyptian by birth, and when Pharoah persecuted God’s people he knew he had to do something. Moses chose to give up all of the luxuries he enjoyed to answer God’s calling to lead His people.
As much as he enjoyed the lifestyle he was living, he was burdened by the way his fellow countrymen were being treated. And when God called, Moses responded. Don’t be mistaken. Moses didn’t just jump right up and do everything God told him. He had questions for God and pushed back on what God asked him to do. I would bet that we would probably do the same thing. But ultimately, Moses obeyed and God’s people were freed from the bonds of slavery.
You would think that the road for Moses and God’s people would’ve been easy once they were free. However, if we read Exodus, freedom from slavery led to 40 years of wandering in the desert. God’s call isn’t always an easy one to follow but God never once left his people. He met their every need and walked with them along the way.
The call to faith and perseverance isn’t always a bed of roses. God’s calling doesn’t promise us a life of comfort, but it does show his faithfulness to us. As we face roadblocks and challenges in our path, He always provides a way. Let the story of Moses be a reminder to us that we can choose the better way.

Prayer:

God, we thank you for your grace and mercy. We ask that you would give us courage to answer your call. Help us to remember the stories of those like Moses to remind us that you are always faithful to fulfill your promises when the road gets rocky. Help us to keep our eyes fixed on you when we doubt. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Skillwork:

Are you being called to step out of your comfort zone? What things are you holding on to that you need to trust God with?
