We’ve got your daily encouragement, written by Aaron Martell.

Bible Reading:

So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”

Colossians 2:6-7

Word:

A brief snapshot of this book of Colossians- Paul is writing to the church of Colosse from a jail cell. He’s encouraging them in their journey with God because there have been rumors and rumblings of something other than Christ. He shares about Christ as the ultimate mystery and in that mystery, we can receive life and live life.

Which gets us to this passage, so now that you have the mystery of Christ, continue on. Continue on how? Life in Christ has deep roots, foundation for living, a strengthening of faith which opens the door to thankfulness, but not just being thankful, an overflowing of thankfulness. Paul is a testament to this truth because he’s talking about overflowing with thankfulness from a jail cell. His thankfulness wasn’t based upon good circumstances it was based upon everything he just stated in the mystery of Christ.

When we journey in Christ, the ups and downs, the twists and turns, we see the mystery of his presence, our response is overflowing thankfulness.

When we are rooted in Christ, we allow him to go deep within our lives and create a firm footing for whatever life throws our way, our response is overflowing thankfulness.

When we are built up, with a firm foundation our response is overflowing thankfulness.

When we are strengthened in our faith our response is overflowing thankfulness.

Each of those areas; journey, rooted, built up, and strengthened all come with elements of challenge, consistency, and growth which leads to overflowing thankfulness. May you see, in the challenging times, consistent times, and growth times are all opportunities to be thankful, especially with the mystery of Christ at the center of our lives.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank you for sending the mystery of life in your son Jesus Christ. As we have the courage to journey with him, be rooted and built up in him, allow us to have our faith strengthened so we may respond with overflowing thankfulness. May those around us see our thankful lives because the mystery of Christ is at the center of our life. Jesus’ name, Amen.
