We’ve got your daily encouragement, written by Aaron Martell.
“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God. And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
When my wife and I were about to tie the knot 15 years ago, her uncle, a pastor from Missouri who was performing our ceremony, sat us down and gave us a word that we cling to and have lived out many times over. He said that there will be times when we will only know, or need, this four-letter prayer, sometimes stated in a quiet whisper, sometimes shouted to heaven, “HELP!”
As simple as that sounds, it has proven to be profound. Each morning I come before God with a list of requests to lay at His feet, with prayers for strength to endure. But sometimes, maybe you’ve felt it too, the Spirit is just reaching out, waiting for the handoff. Waiting for us to stop trying to advance on our own. HE sees what’s ahead, goes before us. HE is already working things out in our future that we have no way of knowing or comprehending.
So when I can defer my agenda to the Spirit, who is already speaking “ in accordance with God’s will” over me, I realize that, though my words may be well-intentioned and pure, I may be best off quieting myself, handing it over, and speaking that four-letter prayer, “HELP!” And listening for the” wordless groans” that Heaven itself is speaking on my behalf.
Think of the Holy Spirit. There when you were born, there past your time on earth. Think of how Heaven itself is cheering you on and fighting for you, working for your good!
