Bible Reading:

Zechariah 9:9-13

Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!
    Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, your king is coming to you;
    righteous and having salvation is he,
humble and mounted on a donkey,
    on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
10 I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim
    and the war horse from Jerusalem;
and the battle bow shall be cut off,
    and he shall speak peace to the nations;
his rule shall be from sea to sea,
    and from the River to the ends of the earth.
11 As for you also, because of the blood of my covenant with you,
    I will set your prisoners free from the waterless pit.
12 Return to your stronghold, O prisoners of hope;
    today I declare that I will restore to you double.
13 For I have bent Judah as my bow;
    I have made Ephraim its arrow.
I will stir up your sons, O Zion,
    against your sons, O Greece,
    and wield you like a warrior’s sword.

Word:

If you are involved at all in CrossFit, you surely know who Rich Froning is. The 4-time CrossFit Games champion was labeled the “Fittest Man on Earth” for a reason. He dominated the sport and is still the standard of what I use when I look at champions. He did it with strength, discipline, and humility.

Jesus was the humble King. Putting aside all rights He had as God and stepping down to earth to reconcile us to Himself, He came in the lowest form possible. He did it in the form of man.

Although Jesus could have demanded the respect, honor, and power that He most certainly deserved, He chose a different path; humility. Sometimes we get humility confused weakness.

Humility is the opposite of weakness. Humility is harnessed power.

In the verse above the prophet Zechariah is foretelling of the coming of the Messiah to the Jews. He explains that He will not come in with guns blazing and demanding honor. It says He “comes triumphant and victorious, riding on a donkey.” I want to encourage you today to take some time and look at your life. Look at the areas where you are practicing humility. Also, look at which areas of your life you need to practice more humility? Where is it that you know it’s time to practice “harnessed power” and lead by example?

Prayer:

Father, I ask that today You would accept my request that You to move into all areas of my life. Show me the parts where I need to practice “harnessed power.” Guide me as I dedicate myself to becoming the person You have created me to be, in Your image. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Skillwork:

Pick one area that God is revealing to you and dedicate time to practice humility. Ask God to lead you in growth there.
