We’ve got your daily encouragement, written by Polly Barcol.

Bible Reading:

Proverbs 13:12

Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a desire fulfilled is a tree of life.

Word:

Have you lost some hope in this season? Possibly all your hope?

Proverbs 13:12 tells us that hope deferred makes the heart sick. We should not be surprised if we feel down and maybe on the verge of tears. Most of us have had a tough year. I don’t have to remind anyone why. However, I do want to remind you that your grief is justified.

You may feel sad or even sick to your stomach, but it doesn’t change your faith in Jesus and your position in Him. We all go through seasons of grief and the only way to move past it and find freedom is by walking through it. Don’t stuff it down or put on a fake smile for everyone.

BE REAL! Be real about your pain and disappointment. Then, pray with someone who loves Jesus. Pray for healing and strength to walk through it, as well as a renewed sense of hope. Jesus can restore your hope, because He is hope, but it may be piece by piece, bit by bit as you renew your mind and experience freedom.

God can use bad things for our good. He can get to those deep places inside of you and uproot anything you have been putting your hope in besides Him. And then He replaces it with Himself which will then give you an eternal hope. And this type of spiritual surgery doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time. However, in the end, you will have a hope that is stronger than ever before.

Prayer:

Lord, we pray that we would trust you in the uprooting necessary for us to walk in true freedom and hope in You! In Jesus Name. Amen!

Skillwork:

Start each day by telling Jesus you give Him permission to do the spiritual surgery necessary to heal. Ask Him to reveal the things you are putting your hope in besides Him.
