Ephesians 1:7-10, 17-19

REFLECT
As part of a team, you must work together in order to accomplish the team goal. Some goals may be smaller while others  are ones that the team strive together to achieve. So how do you know what your plan is? Where does the direction come from?
The direction of the team comes from its leader, the coach. And once the team members receive AND understand the coach’s game plan, they not only make sure sure they understand it, but they make sure their teammates understand it as well. This is the blueprint that the team follows for victory.
I’ve been part of team where there was not the united focus of reaching the coach’s goal. It was a team full of individuals who wanted personal success and fame at the expense of the team suffering. Have you been there? It’s not fun. It’s frustrating, irritating, and upsetting. But Paul tells us something that is so encouraging.
In Ephesians 1:9-10, he says that God, “has made known to us the mystery of His will…as a plan for the right time to bring everything together in Christ.” Did you hear that? God has told us his plan!! Our coach has laid out the steps, he’s laid out the formula to follow. He has shared his “mystery” with his team. And what is that plan? It’s Jesus.
Everything that Jesus came to this earth to accomplish has now been passed on to us, the team members. We are to love like Jesus loved. We are to serve like Jesus served. And we are to give our lives like Jesus gave his, so that those who don’t know Him would come to a personal relationship with God’s Son.

DISCUSSION

• How does it feel to be part of team that is operating as one unit, hitting on all cylinders?
• How does it feel to be part of team that acts as individuals, bypassing the plans of the coach to seek their own good?
• How can you ensure that your team stays focused on the “game plan” and doesn’t waiver?
• In what ways do you see the church operating as one unit? Individuals not together?

SKILL WORK
I want to encourage you to step up and be a leader on your team. Let them see that you are all-in when it comes to helping the team succeed. Be a leader by example, let them see care, not just hear it. Jesus said in Mark 10:45, “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Pray and recite Eph. 1:17-19 out loud.
