When was the last time you updated your resume? In this world of resumes, cover letters, and social media feeds, it’s easy focus more on the image we project instead of the amount of love in our hearts. Employers may be impressed by the number of languages you speak, your years of experience, the size of the budgets you’ve managed, but God’s looking for something totally different. He’s interested in how well you love others.
A resume is all about ME! That’s the point. I am the focus of my resume. It’s the story I spin and manipulate to show myself as the best candidate. Like a filter on an image, I create the best version of myself in order to be accepted, to be chosen. Imagine if the hiring panel could see beyond the “noise” of my self-description.
What if they, like God, could see the motives behind my actions? I wonder if they’d be as impressed with my resume if they could see all the times I’ve been impatient with my children, put things before my closest relationships, or chosen my convenience and comfort over serving others.
If you, like me, have struggled with the temptation to project a good image to win the love of others rather than prioritizing showing love to others, keep reading this series on 1 Corinthians 13. This chapter of the Bible will show you how to be fully known and fully loved by your Heavenly Father and how to project His love in your relationships with others. God doesn’t want your resume. He wants your heart. God doesn’t care about the things that make others love you. He wants to know how well you can love others.
Prayer:
Father, help me to measure my success through the lens of how well I love You and the people You created instead of by my education, my bank account, or any other measures that the world values. I know that everything I achieve means nothing if I’m not living my life in a way that centers on Your love. In Jesus’ name, amen!

Catch yourself next time you’re tempted to engage in a conversation, send a text, or make a social media post that’s all about you. Is there a way that you could elevate someone else instead of yourself right now? Can you make this about showing love to others instead of trying to make them like you more?
