Numbers 13:30
“But Caleb quieted the people before Moses and said, ‘Let us go up at once and occupy it, for we are well able to overcome it.’“
Word:
Have you noticed how many things are collapsible these days? High chairs are collapsible. Computers are collapsible. I’ve got an old fishing pole that is collapsible. My neighbor has this huge ladder that is collapsible. Things that are collapsible are pretty cool because when it’s not convenient to use them, we just collapse them and put them away for a more convenient time. Then, when the time arises, we bring them out of the trunk or our closets and set them up and put them to good use when it’s convenient for us. There is something else that is collapsible that is much more profound than a high chair, or a fishing pole or even a ladder. I’m talking about the collapse of a person’s courage.
We make so many decisions based on courage. We have the choice to either be courageous and go after whatever God wants us to go after, or to collapse under pressure, or under fear. God tells us, though, that he wants us to be men and women of courage. Courage can be defined as the God given ability to stand.
In Numbers 13, Moses sends out 12 spies to check out the land God promised to give them. Ten of the twelve spies were collapsing their courage. Ten of them saw the external. Two of them- Joshua and Caleb- saw the Eternal.
Then in Numbers 13:30, Check out what our boy Caleb said, “Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, ‘We should go up and take possession of the land for we can certainly do it.’” Come on, guys.
Come on, vision vandals. You know vision vandals, don’t you? Al Average, Steve Status Quo, Mary Maintenance. Same old, same old Sam . “We can’t do that. It’s too difficult. It’s too expensive. It’s to different.” Here is something I have found out in my life, and I know you have found it out in your life as well. Being courageous is being lonely. The reality is that we are not ever alone. Having courage is going where God says go even when it looks like there is no way to get there!
Prayer:
God give me the courage to stand and never collapse under the pressure of those who don’t believe in what you put inside of me.
