When the timer starts for the workout, our ultimate focus is on doing our best. As competitors, we don’t let negative thoughts have any control because we understand they are personally destructive and can impact other members of the community. We are devoted to our athletic journey and becoming better versions of ourselves.
But we can only do this if we have the right mindset. That means we don’t let any outside influences, not just negative ones, impact our performance during our workout time.
Sometimes, this is easier said than done because nobody has only good days. However, how we react and channel our energy during a bad day makes a huge difference. If we devote ourselves to positive thinking, we will have a more positive outcome. But this doesn’t mean that the day will now be perfect. It means we can find ways to improve it with a devoted focus on positivity.
Joshua 24:15 provides a powerful example of devotion and service of the most important kind. “But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”
If you were to stand face-to-face with the Lord today, would you be able to say that you are devoted to Him? If not, what could you do today to change that?
This may sound like too big of an ask. But we have to remember that Jesus makes up the difference for everyone. Wherever we fall, His sacrifice picks us back up off the ground. It lifts us, empowers us, and helps us see things as they really are. We should always remember that.
May we be more devoted as competitors and followers of Jesus, doing what he needs us to do to build our lives for the better and the eternal.
