Bible Reading:
Hebrews 11:11-12
11 By faith Sarah herself received power to conceive, even when she was past the age, since she considered him faithful who had promised. 12 Therefore from one man, and him as good as dead, were born descendants as many as the stars of heaven and as many as the innumerable grains of sand by the seashore.
Word:
In his book Miracle Morning, Hal Elrod speaks of miracles. He says “when you consistently maintain unwavering faith and put forth extraordinary effort over an extended period of time, you cannot fail.” It can be easy to sit still and declare that you have faith; it is harder to get up and put that faith in action, to make moves because of your faith. Yet, this is the very definition of perseverance, continued effort to do something despite difficulties, failure, or opposition.
I believe God responds to our unwavering faith and extraordinary effort. I believe when God sees that our trust is entirely in Him, that miracles do take place. The reality of Sarah’s situation was barrenness; she was too old to conceive a child. Yet, this reality did not cause her nor Abraham’s faith to waver. They persevered despite the opposition; they hoped against hope, they held tightly to the mere possibility. Finally, they meshed their unwavering faith with their extraordinary effort, and a miracle was born!
The Bible tells us to show our faith by our works.. faith without works is dead. (James 2) What are you hoping will happen in your life today? Maybe, it’s time to get up and take that first step in faith so that you too can birth a miracle. God specializes in the impossible!
Prayer:
Father, thank you for reminding me that with You, all things are possible. Thank you for being my strength despite my weakness. Please give me the boldness to work and not allow my hands to be weak or slack because I know that my work will be rewarded! In Jesus’ name, amen.
Skillwork:
Every day, we are faced with two options faith or fear; when you feel fear rising in you, choose faith. Read James 1:2-4, “My fellow believers, when it seems as though you are facing nothing but difficulties, see it as an invaluable opportunity to experience the greatest joy that you can! For you know that when your faith is tested it stirs up in you the power of endurance. And then as your endurance grows even stronger, it will release perfection into every part of your being until there is nothing missing and nothing lacking.” Take the first step and allow God to do what He does best!
