We’ve got your daily encouragement, written by Nate Hemphill.

Bible Reading:

1 Corinthians 13:13

“So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.”

Word:

Every time I step onto an airplane to fly somewhere I always think about the marvel of flight. While I have no experience or understanding of physics, aerodynamics, thrust, lift, propulsion or a thousand other things that work together making a massive passenger jet fly, I take my seat, buckle my seat belt and get ready to fall asleep during takeoff. I don’t have to understand or even comprehend how everything works – my life experience gives me the faith to rest knowing that it simply is.

As it pertains to our interactions with God and his son Jesus, we can’t begin to wrap our minds around eternity, how the Earth and the galaxy were created, why God sent Jesus to suffer and die for us – yet we still believe. We know that the historical figure Jesus was a real person who lived a life so significant that we’ve dated everything relative to his sacrifice for mankind.

We’ve been able to sense God in us through the power of the Holy Spirit, constantly reminding us of our belonging, helping us to navigate life. But in the midst of all of the proof, there comes a moment when every person must decide for themselves – will you place your faith in Jesus? Will you cross over the threshold, knowing that you don’t understand much of anything, but still take your seat and rest? In this context it makes a lot of sense that Paul wrote about the bedrock virtues of faith, hope and love – with love outlasting everything.

Prayer:

Jesus, I know that you told us that all we needed was faith as small as a mustard seed to move mountains. I pray that you’d grow my faith today. Help me to see your hand in everything you’ve created and begin to move the mountains in my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Skillwork:

Try to think back to the time you first believed and proclaimed your faith in Jesus. What was the evidence that enabled you to step across the threshold and take your seat? Since that time, what new evidence has enhanced your faith? If by chance you are reading this but have not yet placed your faith in Jesus, it is as simple as a prayer. Please connect with your local FAITH RXD chapter today so that we can pray with you.
