Bible Reading:
Proverbs 4:25-26“Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways.”
Word:
The one word that kept flashing into my mind when I read these verses is “Focus”. There are so many distractions in this world and Satan uses those to move our eyes away from where they should be fixed; on God.
In Matthew 14, we see a story about Peter and Jesus. Jesus comes walking across the water and Peter says, “If it’s really you, tell me to come to you.” And Jesus did! So Peter gets out of the boat and starts walking towards Jesus on the water. Don’t miss this…..Peter walked on the water. But very quickly we read that he started looking around and was distracted by the wind and the waves and started to sink. Jesus reaches down and grabs Peter saying, “you of little faith, why did you doubt?”
When Peter had his eyes fixed on Jesus, he did the impossible. However, when his eyes left Jesus he needed help fast!
In the same way, we need to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus. When the wind and waves of life start moving all around us, we have to maintain our focus on Him. Maybe we can even walk on water.
Prayer:
Lord, I ask that you would help me to keep my eyes fixed on you. I pray that you would be especially clear for me to see when the wind and the waves of this world start to close in on me. Guide me to walk towards you. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
Skillwork:
Find 2 or 3 verses that you can use this week that will help you refocus your mind on God when things aren’t going the way you had hoped.
