We’ve got your daily encouragement, written by Matt Chow.
Bible Reading:
James 4:10
“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.”
Word:
To a certain degree, we all want to be recognized. We may not come out and say it, but it does feel good to be recognized and praised. This is because we live in a world that puts emphasis on getting recognized, being the most popular, having the most followers, etc. We want nice things, we want respect that we think we deserve, and we want to live in comfort. Those are the ways of this world, but God says to stop pursing things of this world. He calls us to trust in him and in him alone and he will lift us up.
Instead of living for ourselves and making everything about us, He wants to make our lives with a greater purpose. That’s exactly how Jesus lived when he was here. He did not live as the world says he should and he made nothing about himself. Then, when the time was right the Father lifted him up to be honored. That’s how we should approach our lives. Live humbly today and God will honor us when the time is right.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, help me to not crave the things of this world. Instead help me walk humbly so that everything I do is a reflection of you. Open my eyes to new opportunities to share the Good News with others. In Jesus’ name, amen!
Skillwork:
Make a list of things that you value in your life. Make another list of things that the Bible says is important. Take small steps to change your list from valuable things of this world into things of eternal value according to God.
