Bible Reading:
“… for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.”
Psalms 107:9
Word:
Have you ever noticed that the people Jesus spent all his time with were the hungry, the thirsty, the poor, the downhearted, any desperate in their own sin. Have you ever noticed that he spent very little time with those who had it all together, who needed nothing, who were prideful in their own ability to feed themselves and provide their own needs?
The reason that Jesus spends his time with the broken, the hurting and the empty is because these are the most responsive. If anyone believes they need nothing and they have it all together then they have no need for God. So if today you find yourself broken and unable to put back the pieces; good.
If today you find yourself empty in a way you know you can’t fill; great. If today, you find yourself lost with no hope of finding your way; celebrate. Jesus spends all his time with such as these! This means His presence is not only there but working. He comforts those who need comfort.
Prayer:
Jesus, give us the strength today to lean into our weakness and fall face first at your feet; “for more blessed are those who mourn for they will be comforted.” We claim his promise today. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
Skillwork:
Humble yourselves, today, and lean into your emptiness, your hurt, and your brokenness. Stop trying to act like you can fix it. If you want His presence, put down the pride. If you want His power, empty yourself of your own and lean into your weakness. Confess who you are without Him and watch His presence begin to flow.
