Bible Reading:
1 Corinthians 13:7
“Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”
Word:
My husband and I recently celebrated 23 years of marriage. In 23 years, there have been some fantastic moments. We have indeed grown up together; you see, we have been a couple since high school. We have seen each other through education, many job transitions, the birth of 3 children, and a few businesses. We have also seen each other through all of the challenges that the previously mentioned events can bring.
One thing that shines through is our perseverance to overcome and help each other through. Our love for each other has been the driving force behind our tenacity; we can endure the more challenging times in our lives because we have this love.
What love is this? The Bible describes this as love in action, agapé. This love is not based on conditions, and this love is not based on reciprocity. This love is based on the genuine desire to see the good come to pass in others. This love is based on steadfastly continued effort in the very face of opposition and difficulties!
This is the love that God calls every believer to walk out on this earth. If we truly love our brothers and sisters, we will be able to set aside our difference, our plans, and entitlements for the good of one another.
This love acknowledges and accepts challenging times or flat-out rejection, but continues unwaveringly to build up and encourage. This is the love that God shows us daily. He will always chase after us with continued effort to build us up and encourage our hearts to keep placing one foot in front of the other no matter the conditions nor if we reject Him! True love perseveres!
Prayer:
Father, thank you for your unconditional love for me! Help me to show that same love to all those that I come in contact with daily. I want to press in and strive for the strength to be the light and encourager no matter the conditions. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
Skillwork:
Look for daily opportunities to show God’s love to others. We are called to be the salt and the light. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. (Matthew 5:16)
