We’ve got your daily encouragement, written by Andrea Johnson.

Bible Reading:

Ephesians 6:10

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.

Word:

Brene Brown did a talk on vulnerability, and one of the things she said that stuck out in my head was that, “Vulnerability is not weakness; it’s our greatest measure of courage.” In times past, I believe that we have confused being courageous with being strong in our strength, being fearless. And that is not the case at all.

Several times in the Bible, we are told- commanded in fact- to be strong and very courageous. God would not have to nudge us to take on strength if fear was not close by. Courage is doing it afraid; courage is to be vulnerable.

In our vulnerability, God can display His best work! David was no match for Goliath, but he stepped out in the courage that God provided. Moses was not a match for Pharaoh; he moved in the strength and the confidence of God.

Joshua, when he took over leadership, was told to be strong and very courageous! But what do courage and vulnerability look like?

In Ephesians 6, we see that God gives us sort of a formula. The armor we need when we step out! It’s like when you get ready to go to the gym and check the WOD to see what clothing and gear you will need i.e., wrist wraps, tape, lifting belt, lifting shoes. You want to prepare for “battle.” Well, knowing that God has commanded us to be very strong and face our enemy, we too should gear up!

Remembering our strength is provided by God; he loves us and will not leave us out there alone, which is evident in this chapter. God provides so much, and if we look closely, it seems like he leaves our back vulnerable, but we know that God ALWAYS has our back!

Prayer:

Father, thank you that I can draw my strength from you, the strength that your boundless might provides. Today help me put on and walk in the whole armor of God, that I may be able to successfully stand up against [all] the strategies and the deceits of the devil.

Skillwork:

Read Ephesians 6:10-18, spend time unpacking the armor. Please get to know each piece and the function.
