Jesus went to the olive grove of Gethsemane, taking Peter, James and John with him. He became deeply troubled and distressed. He told them:
“My soul is crushed with grief to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.”
He went on a little further and fell to the ground. He prayed that, if it were possible, the awful hour awaiting him might pass him by.
“Abba Father”, he cried out, “everything is possible for you. Please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.”
At this point we see Jesus almost overcome with the knowledge of what was about to happen.
He was taking on the sin of everyone in the world and he was going to be physically tortured and crucified for it. He had with him his friends. He prayed. He asked to be excused from his pain, but also acknowledged God’s plan was more important.
We may not be about to be executed. But when feeling overwhelmed with problems, challenges, and broken relationships, then we can do what Jesus did.
I pray today for you to be given the grace of God’s wisdom, strength and guidance.
