REFLECT
There are many reasons to enjoy fitness and athletics, but competitors enter competition with one goal in mind – to win. Of course, winning is not always defined by crossing the finish line first. Winning is truly defined by how and why we compete. But scripture urges us to be intentional with our effort as followers of Jesus. Our lives are compared to a runner in a race, and we must not run aimlessly. Competitors aim for a clearly defined target.
- What is your target as a competitor in the sport of fitness, or in another arena of life?
- When have you failed to experience success because you lacked clearly defined goals?
Without a clearly defined goal it is impossible to find success. As followers of Jesus, we are not instructed to simply run in the race but to “run to win.” So, what is the prize we are competing to win?
The competitor for Christ aims for the prize of seeing others cross the finish line with Him as their Savior. Champions win when others win, and they cultivate discipline into their lives to experience winning as much as possible.
