Competitors love to be “under the lights.” Stadium lights represent everything we have trained for. When you walk onto the field of competition every practice rep and every disciplined decision during training is behind the competitor. It’s time to shine. Many times we picture our dreams, goals, and aspirations out in front of us. This is certainly true, but it is also helpful to see our goals standing over us much like those stadium lights. They are guiding us and reminding us where we should go.
What is the biggest thing on the field? Is it the challenge? Is it the opponent? Is it the scoreboard? Whatever is biggest will overshadow everything else. Champions see their challenges in the shadow of their goals. They set goals so big that they rise above whatever challenge that may arise. This is how God wants us to view His protective power. The Scriptures compare His protection to the eagles wings which stretch over us and provide a refuge. Followers of Christ are protected from harm because we live in the grace of His Son, and we are destined to permanently rise above every challenge we face.
“God, Your faithful love is so valuable that people take refuge in the shadow of Your wings.” – Psalm 36:7
