“It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man.“

REFLECT
Try to imagine the safest, most comfortable place in your world. Where is it? Who is there? Why do you feel safe? Believers can take “refuge” in the Lord, which means a place of safety. As you reflect on your life, I’m sure you can remember times when you got “burned” by others. You trusted someone, and it backfired in your face. You have a sour taste in your mouth because someone did not fulfill your expectations. Or, worse than that, they never even showed up.
This passage says the Lord is better because He is always there. You can trust Him. “Give thanks to the Lord for He is good. His faithful love endures forever.”
RESPOND
1. Identify 3 people you trust. What characteristics provide proof they can be trusted?
2. Describe an instance in your life that proves the trustworthiness of the Lord.
3. What attitudes, or actions, demonstrate you still do not trust completely in the Lord?
“The one who trusts in himself is a fool, but one who walks in wisdom will be safe.” (Proverbs 28:26)

Thank you for the workout Chip!
I find trust in confidence and caring with people. Someone who has a confident personality in their ability but also one who genuinely cares for me.
Not too long ago I put my career in Gods hands and I was willing to do or go wherever he wanted me too. For the first time I truly put it in Gods hands for such a big decision.
I still struggle with having my own plans and I tend to set a goal and forget to run it through God in prayer. I say forget but most of the time I am hoping he will just agree with what I am doing and planning.
I have learned in my growth with God that I truly do trust him each day, and I might not like where I go or what I do daily but I trust in his word and guidance.

Thank you Chip for the reminder that our Lord is trustworthy! sometimes I think we get caught up in the everyday “stuff” and we forget to go to God and know that His thoughts and ways are not ours and He does see us where we need to be- we CAN trust Him! It’s something that is so hard in today’s world of hurry up and I want it now!! But something also very simple! Thanks for the reminder to recall the times He has been there! Gods timing is never late!!
Thank you for being faithful!!
People who I trust include my parents, my pastor, and my coaches at crossfit. I can trust my parents because they love me and care for me, and they want the best for me. I can trust my pastor because I know he also cares for me and wants to help me grow in my walk with God. I know I can trust my coaches because they are educated, experienced, caring, and ready to help.
An instance in my life that proves the trustworthiness of the Lord occurred about two weeks ago. I was at crossfit getting ready for a snatch PR attempt. As usual, before I went in for the lift I said a silent prayer for protection and his covering. I proceeded to lift the bar, I got it overhead and received it in the bottom position, but something went wrong and I failed. The bar came crashing down on the back of my neck, driving me down to the ground. I remember sitting there in shock, as my coach was taking care of me. He was also mind blown that I was smiling after that. Thankfully I’m fine because of God’s covering over me. But I could have broken something in my neck or been extremely injured.
An area in my life that shows that I still don’t completely trust in the Lord, is immediately after this accident happened, on the drive home I was so upset wondering ‘Why had he let this happen to me?’ Instead of being thankful that he protected me, I was upset that it had even happened. Thankfully, after a few days had past I was able to look back on the accident and see his hand and protection. Praise God for his protection and trustworthiness!

1. I trust my parents because they’ve been there no matter where I was in life. I trust my teammates because though we might go head to head I know that if I was down they’d run through hell to get me.
2. No matter how far I run or push away. God opens the door that ultimately leads me back to Him. Though I’m broken and feel lost I find myself always on the path that guides me back to where He wants me.
3. I try to fix things and make problems mine. I try to control the outcome of things way out of my control and stress when I can’t control the situations. I need to learn that God is in control and God is good.
