We’ve got your daily encouragement, written by Joe Mummert.

Bible Reading:

Job 19:23-25

23 “Oh that my words were written!
Oh that they were inscribed in a book!
24 Oh that with an iron pen and lead
they were engraved in the rock forever!
25 For I know that my Redeemer lives,
and at the last he will stand upon the earth.”

Word:

It’s amazing how sometimes looking at one word, phrase, or sentence can take us right back to a time and place. I think it’s the reason we keep, and occasionally read through the comments written in our old yearbooks; so we can go back to that place! I know there have been many times in my life that I will hear something or read something that immediately sparks a flood of memories, feelings, smells, and sounds. So, why wouldn’t we create this intentionally?

By journaling, we are able to create those possibilities daily. We cement ourselves in a mind set that we can look back on later and learn from, the good and the bad. There have been times where I will find an old journal and almost cringe at the thought of what may be written inside of it. However, it can be healing also. We can be reminded of a time where we conquered fear and things worked out amazingly or we can learn that the situation may not have worked out great but it wasn’t as bad or as terrifying as we initially thought it was.

In the gym we see many people “journal” in their own way, keeping track of times, reps, weights, etc…so why don’t we apply the same principal to spiritual journaling? Wouldn’t it be great to “beat your time” when it comes to struggle, anxiety, or even depression? We all have peaks and valleys in life…lets learn from the good and bad! A great way to do that is to write it down!

Prayer:

God, help me with the discipline I lack to keep a detailed journal of my experiences throughout my journey with you in this life. In Jesus’ name, amen!

Skillwork:

Start! Journal your feelings, experiences, wins, losses…all of it! Start once a week if you aren’t able to commit daily. Progress, not perfection!
