Romans 4:18-25

REFLECT

Why am I here? How will I do this? What if I can’t?

These are the voices of doubt.

They creep in especially when we put ourselves in position to do something great. God prepared us to walk as champions before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 2:10).  But our enemy, the devil, loves to plant seeds of doubt in our minds to paralyze us from doing what God called us to do.

Preparation gives us comfort. Our performance can bring hope. But, ultimately, it’s a presence that gives us the real assurance we crave. Our confidence grows when we know God will stay by our side no matter what happens. It is not our preparation or our performance that will bring lasting comfort in adversity. It is God’s permanent presence.

How do you know God will be there no matter what happens? How can you hold onto the mission of being a champion in the midst of adversity? The cross of Christ proves we never needed perfect performance to earn His love. “For it was while we were still sinners that Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8) He has prepared us for this moment. We must perform our best and be confident He will be present no matter what!

SKILL WORK

Write these verses or copy them to your phone and read them aloud each day this week!

  1. “Since God assured us, ‘I’ll never let you down, never walk off and leave you,’ we can boldly quote, ‘God is there, ready to help; I’m fearless no matter what. Who or what can get to me?’ ” — Hebrews‬ ‭13:5-6‬
  2. “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in Me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. And you know the way to where I am going.” — John 14:1-4
  3. “I am not ashamed, because I know the one I have put my trust in.” — 2 Timothy 1:12
