We’ve got your daily encouragement, written by Nate Hemphill.
Bible Reading:
“1 The heavens declare the glory of God,
and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
2 Day to day pours out speech,
and night to night reveals knowledge.
3 There is no speech, nor are there words,
whose voice is not heard.
4 Their voice goes out through all the earth,
and their words to the end of the world.
In them he has set a tent for the sun,
5 which comes out like a bridegroom leaving his chamber,
and, like a strong man, runs its course with joy.
6 Its rising is from the end of the heavens,
and its circuit to the end of them,
and there is nothing hidden from its heat.7 The law of the Lord is perfect,
reviving the soul;
the testimony of the Lord is sure,
making wise the simple;
8 the precepts of the Lord are right,
rejoicing the heart;
the commandment of the Lord is pure,
enlightening the eyes;
9 the fear of the Lord is clean,
enduring forever;
the rules of the Lord are true,
and righteous altogether.
10 More to be desired are they than gold,
even much fine gold;
sweeter also than honey
and drippings of the honeycomb.
11 Moreover, by them is your servant warned;
in keeping them there is great reward.12 Who can discern his errors?
Declare me innocent from hidden faults.
13 Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins;
let them not have dominion over me!
Then I shall be blameless,
and innocent of great transgression.14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
be acceptable in your sight,
O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.”Psalm 19
Word:
I’ll never forget the first time I became fearfully aware God’s mighty power expressed in weather! Yep – you read that right – expressed in weather – As a young junior officer on my first Navy ship sailing home from a long eight month deployment. We were returning home after a short stop in Southwest Australia when we were forced to steam through a storm through which there was no way to avoid. We hit 12’ swells and strong winds that crashed over the 40’ bow of our ship full of Sailors and Marines already weary from a long deployment. For that full day, I became aware of just how big God was and how small we were.
Undoubtedly, you, too, have probably stood in awe of God’s craftsmanship in nature; staring up at the stars, looking at the mass of a mountain ridge or gazing at the beauty of a flower up close, etc. It is inspiring that our God created it all- every scene, every color, every scent. There is a never-ending exploration that continues on today as we learn and discover more of God’s majestic creation. In the same way, none of us can fathom the depth, width or expanse of God’s love for us! God’s love for you and me is immeasurable.
In another recent Faith Workout of the Day post written by Phil Woody, we were lead to fathom the difference in how we measure power output in the gym versus the immeasurable power of God’s love. In the gym only three tangible things matter; how heavy, how far and how fast. Because we love boiling things down to an equation so much…How heavy is God’s love? Even heavier than the cross his son Jesus carried. How far does God’s love go? Far enough to separate us from our sin – as far as the East is from the West. How fast does God’s love move? Faster than a sinner can pray for salvation – God moves heavy loads, long distances and FAST!
Prayer:
God, you’re awesome. I still can’t fully wrap my mind around your power and what you’re capable of. Open my eyes more and more to who you are and what you’re capable of. Inspire more awe in me of you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Skillwork:
Take a few minutes today to behold God’s creation. Get up close to a tree, stare up at the sky, go outside barefoot and feel the grass between your toes. During this time have a conversation with the God of all creation. Give him thanks for all that he has done.
