Bible Reading:

Hebrews 11:1-3

1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation. By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.

Word:

A couple years ago, I started a local chapter of FAITH RXD.  Man, during this time I really felt “on fire” for the Lord.  At the time, I was also on the board of my church and I just felt the Holy Spirit leading me to different leadership positions.  The feeling was like the first time that I got baptized.  Do you remember the first time you were baptized?  The presence of the Lord just over-fills you.

Eventually, I started to come down from this “high”.  It didn’t happen all at once, but gradually.  Life started to take over and my attention was drawn to different things.  I still held the same positions at church and in the FAITH RXD chapter, so why didn’t I feel as close to God as I did before.  I felt like my Faith was not there.

Just because we cannot see God working in our lives doesn’t mean that he is not there.  In Hebrews 11:1, it says “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”  Faith in God is not about seeing or feeling him.  It’s okay to feel like we don’t understand what He is doing or working on for our lives.  God loves all of us no matter if we feel close to him or not.  What truly matters is that we accept him in our hearts, even when we cannot see or feel him.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank you for always loving me even when I feel away from you.  Help me to strengthen my faith when it is week.  Fill me with your spirit so that your will can be done in my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Skillwork:

Let’s work on strengthening our faith with some exercises.

  1. Read the Word- take some time each day to read it.
  2. Digest the Word and put it into practice.
  3. Surround yourself with a community of faith believers.  Checking out a local FAITH RXD chapter is a great way to find a community of faith.
  4. Pick up a book related to the Bible or Faith.
