Bible Reading:
Romans 8:23-25
“And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience...“
Word:
As the calendar rolls over to a new year, our minds are often fixed on how things can or will be better. You may have heard or used the phrase, “New year, new me.” This year is going to be different right?! Today, I want to show you how much better it can be!
As believers in Christ, we are given the Holy Spirit. This Spirit that lives inside of us creates desires and longings that we can’t explain.
Romans 8 tells us that even creation itself has longings and desires. These desires are for us to be in the relationship with God that he actually created us for. You see, when he created Adam and Eve, he walked and talked and spent time with them in the Garden of Eden. Then, sin happened, and the relationship was broken.
Because God loves us so much, he wanted to restore that relationship. He offered that to us by sending his son Jesus to die for our sins. By believing in Jesus, our broken relationship with God is reconciled. However, it won’t be perfected until the day we’re with Jesus. Which is either, Christ coming again, or the day we die.
That’s what creation longs for and what’s stirring inside of each of us! That’s why we are often frustrated with the world we live in…..we weren’t created for it. We were created for so much more! Let’s make 2021 different because we know where our hope comes from!
Prayer:
God, I am tired of the same old stuff. I understand that you have created me for a relationship with you and I really want to have more of that in my life. Your Word tells us that you will quench our thirsts like a refreshing spring, and God I ask that you will do that for me. I want you to be my source of strength. Amen
