REFLECT

What does it mean to be holy? Does it mean that we need to live without material possessions? Does it mean we only spend time with people who believe in Jesus? No.

Being holy is acting how God wants us to act. He understands that we aren’t always on some spiritual high. Everyone has lows. But when people that try to be holier hit lows, they don’t give up on God. Instead, they lean into their relationship with Jesus.

Hebrews 12:14 reads, “Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.” Every effort doesn’t mean to expect perfection. It means to do your best and that as you do, you will be able to see God’s hand easier in your life.

In addition, to be holy is to be spiritually clean. Again, this doesn’t mean that we don’t sin or make mistakes. That’s not possible. We aren’t God. But we can ask for His guidance and confess to Him, both things which help us become holier. Jesus Christ wants us to do this.

We should all pursue becoming holier. The holier we are, the easier it is to hear God’s voice in our lives. He stands at the door and all we have to do is knock. Revelations 3:20 says, “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.”

We should all want to have a sit down with Jesus.
