We’ve got your daily encouragement, written by Thomas Reed.
Bible Reading:
2 Peter 1:5-7
“For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love.”
Word:
What we truly hope to accomplish in our faith, the salvation of our souls and eternal life has already been accomplished. We didn’t accomplish this. God did. All we have to do is believe Him.
For those of us who are already saved, what more do we have to do? What can we possibly add, knowing that our eternity is already decided?
In CrossFit ,there is a pyramid designed to provide a path to optimize performance. Mastering each small step in the progression leads to being a well-rounded athlete. It begins with Nutrition, and at the apex is Sport. But there are 3 other steps in this progression that are important to master. They are: Metabolic Conditioning, Gymnastics, and Weightlifting/Throwing.
Peter gives us a progression in this passage of 2 Peter. If we were to make a pyramid it begins with Faith as the foundation and at the apex is Love, Love for everyone. But there are 6 other steps in this progression that are important to master. They are: moral excellence, knowledge, self-control, patient endurance, godliness, and brotherly affection.
As a follower of Christ we sure hope we have love! However, Jesus doesn’t just have love- He IS love. Becoming love will take a lifetime of commitment and learning. At least we know where to start- Faith. If you do have Faith, begin to pray and seek God’s vision for your moral excellence and purity.
If you don’t have faith start by reaching out to FAITH RXD or anyone you trust to walk with you towards it. If you have physical goals use the CrossFit pyramid and start with Nutrition. Reach out to a coach for help if needed.
If you want to grow spiritually in the days, weeks, and months ahead, use this pyramid from Peter and begin to supplement your faith. May we all be more of the athletes we want to be and may we all be closer to becoming LOVE when this year is over. To answer the question at the beginning: For those of us who are already saved, what more do we have to do? What can we possibly add, knowing that our eternity is already decided? The answer is that God wants to do something powerful and unique through each one of us to impact the people around us.
Prayer:
God, thank you for giving us the roadmap to know how we can grow in our faith! Please give me courage to see what areas I can grow in, and guide me in developing in those areas. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Skillwork:
Look at the progression- find where you are and work with God and those you trust to grow right where you are at.
