Bible Reading:
1 Corinthians 13:4
“… love does not envy or boast…“
Word:
Think about a time when you boasted about an accomplishment. It may have been in the gym with a PR, or an “A” on an assignment, or a promotion at work, etc. We may feel that we have a right to boast because after all we worked hard for it. However, when we are boasting the focus is on us. We are focused on our abilities, but God is the one who gave us those abilities.
God gave us the air we breathe, the life we have, everything! I believe LOVE is who God is as well as what He does. God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit all point to the other person of the Trinity. They are always bragging on the other person because that is LOVE. Love is focusing on God and other people not ourselves. When we do that, we will begin to see all that God has done for us to accomplish anything.
We will begin to see the people who have poured into us, given to us, and enabled us to succeed. We stand on other people’s shoulders and God’s shoulders. Let’s replace the boasting with gratitude and thanksgiving for all those, including God, who have been a part of the successes in our lives!
Prayer:
Lord, thank you for all the ways You and others have enabled me to succeed. May I live a life of gratitude, boasting of Your goodness. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Skillwork:
Show some love – write thank you notes, send a message, make a phone call to some people in your life that you want to thank and appreciate their contribution to your successes.
