We’ve got your daily encouragement, written by Aaron Martell.

Bible Reading:

It is he who made the earth by his power, who established the world by his wisdom, and by his understanding stretched out the heavens.”

Jeremiah 10:12

Word:

I grew up singing a song, “My God is so big, so strong and so mighty, there’s nothing my God cannot do.” There are so many pictures of that song being true, but one of them is seen within the prophet Jeremiah, as he says, that by God’s power he created the earth. We can see God’s power, how he is so strong and so mighty, within creation.

But the fascinating thing to me is all the ways we see his power, not only in big and magnificent ways; mountains, Grand Canyon, mighty, deep oceans. But his power can also be seen in the small things. The constant drip of water over rock will erode the rock and create beautiful formations. The slow movement of ice in a glacier can smooth the earth.

Then as we apply the rest of that verse, in big ways and small ways. How is wisdom within life established, one big, powerful expression? Or is it through consistent thoughts, steps in the same direction as the things of God, coupled with action? His understanding stretched out the heavens. The expanse of understanding that can cover our life as we seek God’s power in our life.

Yes, I want my God to be big, strong and mighty and I love seeing him in creation. But may I marvel at a colony of ants mass producing their community is as powerful as an eruption from a volcano.

Prayer:

Dear Creator, MY heavenly Father. May I see your power in mighty ways in my life, but may I also slow down enough to see the consistent and persistent ways your power can change my life with wisdom and understanding. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Skillwork:

Take some time to process these questions and journal the answers.

  1. What does it look like for you to take some time today and look at God’s power within creation? Not only in his big, majestic ways, but also in small ways?
  2. What spiritual discipline do you need to begin or continue that may feel small, but over time create a deeper understanding of God or greater impact?
  3. What is one, albeit small way you can have a powerful impact in someone’s life today? Ask God to show you, how you can create that in his power.
