We’ve got your daily encouragement, written by Andrea Johnson.

Bible Reading:

Matthew 6:33

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Word:

A simple perspective shift can drastically change your outlook. The truth of today’s passage is that God will provide all that we need; therefore, we should not worry or allow our minds to dwell on the difficulty or trouble we may be experiencing. If we truly believe God to be the Lord God that Provides, why do we find ourselves experiencing feelings of worry, doubt, and hopelessness?

Somehow, somewhere our perspective shifted, and we began to believe that our problems are more significant than the God we serve; our view is skewed. Jesus said this in his Sermon on the Mount (taken from the Message version), “Don’t worry, if God gives such fantastic attention to those things we may regard as small or insignificant, “don’t you think that he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you? What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, not to be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God’s giving.” (Matthew 30-33)

One way to stop feeling downhearted, downcast, defeated, hopeless, is to shift our perspective. When we are more concerned with “God giving” and less concerned with “getting.” We will not worry about missing out. We will find that all our needs are met, that God will add all other things to us.

Prayer:

Lord, I desire a shift in my perspective; I don’t want to be so worried about getting, that I can not respond to what you are giving. Please help me focus my attention on what you are doing right now and not be overly concerned about what may or may not happen tomorrow. Help me deal with whatever hard times or things that come into my life.

Skillwork:

The Bible says in Psalms 34:19, “Disciples so often get into trouble; still, God is there every time.” We will not avoid the troublesome times, knowing that it makes sense that we start our day seeking God. We should steep our life in the reality of God, the provision of God daily. A gratitude journal is an excellent place to begin. Daily take 5 minutes to write 3-5 things that you are grateful to God for doing in your day. You will find God is doing great things.
