We’ve got your daily encouragement, written by Andrea Johnson.
Bible Reading:
Psalm 119:11
I have stored up your word in my heart,
that I might not sin against you.
Word:
Walking into uncharted waters can be exciting and scary at the same time. For example, starting a new job, going to an unfamiliar mastermind meeting, or trying a new CrossFit class for the first time. The truth is that we generally don’t go into these new opportunities without some thought, research, or preparation. We prepare our introduction or google the moves of the day or the mission of the new company.
Today’s verse demonstrates how we can prepare for this Christian journey and the ups and downs along the way. David said that he had hidden the Word of God in his heart so that he might not sin against God. David believes that memorizing the Word of God is so powerful that it is his best defense against sin.
We all should be like David! Sin can creep into our lives easily. The book of Hebrews plainly says to lay aside every weight and the sin that so easily and cleverly entangles us. However, we have a powerful weapon that we can wield to defensively oppose Satan’s attacks and, offensively, to help destroy the enemy’s strategies. (Ephesians 6:17) We have a weapon that is alive and active and sharper than a two-edged sword. (Hebrews 4:12) We have to actively get this Word and hide this Word in our hearts to use it when needed. We can do this by memorizing scripture.
Prayer:
Father, Your Word is a lamp to my feet, a light to my pathway. Help me to hide Your Word in my heart so that I might not sin against you. Help me to put on the whole armor of God daily to include the Sword of the Spirit. In Jesus’ name, amen!
Skillwork:
Set aside time to spend with your Bible. This time has to be intentional. Grab a pen and paper and write out a few scriptures that speak directly to you and what you are preparing for and commit these scriptures to memory.
