Bible Reading:
“But Jesus called them to him and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. It shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Matthew 20:25-28
Word:
We’ve been talking about peace this whole month, so it may seem odd to have a verse that’s about serving other people. What’s probably become apparent is that the traditional view of peace meaning being comfortable or calm isn’t always what it means in the Bible.
That fact can be super uncomfortable to accept.
In our most recent podcast we interviewed Mayhem CFO, Brian Nelson. He shares how his life was devoid of peace after loosing his marriage, and then his daughter leaving him because of the poor choices he was making in life. It wasn’t until he “gave God a year” and served his local church that he discovered his peace wasn’t going to be found in achieving personal comfort, or would be found in centering his life on God and on serving others.
That journey has led him to now being CFO of one of the most well known CrossFit entities, and starting Mayhem Mission with the goal of serving others and spreading the Gospel.

Prayer:
God, my life just isn’t about me. It’s about you. Help me accept that truth. God, I just want to know you, serve you, and serve the people you’ve created. Please help show me how. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
