Bible Reading:

2 Corinthians 4:17

“For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison

Word:

I can remember one time a few years ago, I was going on my first out of state missions trip to the Los Angeles Dream Center. This was going to be the longest flight I had been on since I was a kid.

I used to fly all the time as a kid and I remember absolutely loving it. I had flown one time previously as an adult and it was NOT AT ALL how I remembered it. The seats had shrunk and moved closer together and I had apparently developed some control freak tendencies along the way. I was not happy about the experience whatsoever. My stomach was in knots the entire flight and I think I left the mold of my grip permanently imprinted in the arm rest. That flight was only about 90 minutes, the one to LA was going to be about 6 hours.

About a week prior, I was meeting with a customer and we were discussing the trip. I sheepishly brought up the fact that I was not looking forward to flying at all and that I was pretty apprehensive about it. Being a fellow believer, I nervously joked with her and said, “Well, if it is God’s plan for me to go then I guess I will just have to accept it.” She looked at me and laughed and said, “What in the world would you be upset about?! You know where you’d be going!”

It was in that moment I realized something that may seem gruesome or morbid to some but as a believer I need to realize in every situation; it will always get better in the end! If we have a relationship with God, then we know where our fate lies. I’m not saying by any means I wish for a plane crash, or a car accident or any other form of death, but I am saying that no matter what happens in this life, God promises it will get better!

If we look at the next verse in 2 Corinthians, verse 18, Paul says, “So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” We have hope knowing that NO MATTER WHAT, it will be ok!

Prayer:

God, help me to remember that you are in control. Help calm my spirit when I want to become anxious. Remind me that you have prepared a place for me in eternity and that no matter what I face in this life, it will be worth it in the end.

Skillwork:

What’s one thing you are stressing over right now that you and a partner could help pray your way past?
