We’ve got your daily encouragement, written by Hannah Winslow.
Bible Reading:
“The light of the eyes rejoices the heart, and good news refreshes the bones.”
Proverbs 15:30
Word:
“The light and cheer in one person’s eyes brings joy to others around her, and good news shared is beneficial to everyone’s health both on the giving and receiving ends! Good news and the joy that results from it is healing and contagious.” Proverbs 15:30 makes this statement, which we can all probably relate to in some past experience.
The news we share has the power to bring real truth, joy, and healing to others. It also has the power to frighten, discourage, and steal their hope. Both our words and the spirit in which we share them have influence over others around us-just think of a time where you caught someone else’s excitement or negativity just by being around them!
We know from Proverbs 15:20 that, “The power of life and death are in the tongue.” As followers of Christ, we have a responsibility to use our words to others in the same way that the spirit of God does to us. We are first and foremost to speak the gospel over our own lives and others. We are also instructed in Philippians 4:8, “Finally, believers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable and worthy of respect, whatever is right and confirmed by God’s word, whatever is pure and wholesome, whatever is lovely and brings peace, whatever is admirable and of good repute; if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think continually on these things [center your mind on them, and implant them in your heart].”
Let’s be grateful for the good news of God’s word, let’s fix our minds on the things of God, and let our words be an overflow of those many, life-giving things!
Romans 1:16, “I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.”
Prayer:
Father, we are so grateful for all that you have done on our behalf. We love you, because you first loved us. You speak life over us, and we want to speak that same life over ourselves and others. Help us to recenter our minds on your beautiful gospel of Jesus Christ so the words that come out of our mouths are wholesome to others. In your name we pray, amen!
Skillwork:
Let’s meditate on Proverbs 15:20, Philippians 4:8, and Romans 1:16, and ask the Lord to change any negative tenancies of our minds and resulting words.
