We’ve got your daily encouragement, written by Phil Woody.
Bible Reading:
“Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”Ephesians 5:15-20
Word:
You’ve heard it said that our perception is our reality. So, what happens if our perception is off? Then our reality is as well. What we live, feel, think and act out, is the story we believe.
- As a CrossFit athlete of over 8 years now, I know that the guy who started at the age of 37, ain’t 37 anymore. I have a number of attitudes I can have about this:
- I can be discouraged as I see my recovery time requires longer then it did when I started.
- I can be frustrated that my current 1 rep max isn’t what it used to be and seemingly never will be.
- I can cry about how my knees hurt more than they used to and that my shoulder aches after every WOD.
- I can quit, throw my hands up and say it is just for those in their prime.
All these things would be true at some level, but they are not the full story. They are a tiny piece of reality like a planet is a tiny piece of a galaxy.
The reality is that I am 45 and still more fit then I was at 35. The reality is that I don’t just do CrossFit I now coach CrossFit, and I get to see others discover breakthroughs they never dreamed could be a reality. I am smarter than I was, so I still get PR’s on WOD’s because I attacked them better. So what’s the reality? Are my best CrossFit years behind me or in front of me?
Look at the scripture. I can live down to a small picture of reality, or I can ask Jesus to pull back the curtain to the galaxies and see that what he is inviting me to is so much more. What’s real? God is real! His love is real! His peace is real. His promises are real. That’s the story I will choose to live. I am not in my latter years of CrossFit, I have just started!
Prayer:
Thank you Jesus that my present reality isn’t my eternal one. Help me, in worship to live up, with gratefulness, to the kingdom reality that is Christ in me! In Jesus’ name, amen!
